December 3 marks the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The theme for 2024 is “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.”

This day provides an opportunity to reflect on the status of the rights of persons with disabilities and to emphasize the importance of their participation and representation, ensuring they are active protagonists in society and in decisions that affect their lives.

On this occasion, AICS is pleased to publish the report “Data Analysis in the Disability Sector, 2023,” which highlights the agency’s commitment to supporting projects in over 20 countries. These initiatives account for 9% of the total grants disbursed in the same year. The report also notes an increase in allocations compared to 2022, particularly in the emergency response channel, demonstrating the agency’s dedication to protecting persons with disabilities, especially in contexts of crisis and conflict.

The hope is to continue along this path while building on the Solfagnano Charter, adopted during the G7 meeting on “Inclusion and Disability” held in Umbria, where AICS actively participated. The charter signifies the commitment of all member countries to adopt concrete policies and actions for the inclusion of persons with disabilities, in line with the 2006 UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
