On November 18, nine new humanitarian emergency projects were launched in Lebanon, funded by Italian Cooperation for a total of €5,400,000.

Italy, already deeply engaged politically first in achieving and now in consolidating the ceasefire, reaffirms its historical commitment to supporting the country’s civilian population. The selection call, launched in exceptionally rapid times to ensure a swift response, is part of a broader intervention framework worth €28 million, aimed not only at mitigating the impact of the humanitarian crisis caused by the conflict but also at strengthening Lebanese institutions.

The approved interventions address a wide range of needs, including W.A.S.H. (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), protection services, basic assistance, food security, and housing needs. In partnership with public institutions and local partners, the Civil Society Organizations selected through the call (Oxfam, AVSI, CESVI, We World-GVC, Intersos, Terre Des Hommes Italia, Action Against Hunger, AISPO, and ARCS) will carry out activities over a four-month period, covering large portions of Lebanese territory and focusing particularly on people in the most vulnerable conditions.

“Italy stands, now more than ever, alongside the Lebanese people,” said Fabrizio Marcelli, Ambassador of Italy to Lebanon. “These new projects represent an immediate and concrete response to the growing needs of those affected by the conflict and are part of a broader framework of support for the country’s development, which also includes the valuable contribution of the Italian armed forces within UNIFIL and in support of the LAF (Lebanese Armed Forces).”

Alessandra Piermattei, Head of the AICS office in Beirut, emphasized that, “Italian Cooperation will support the distribution of food aid, inclusive access to reception centers, and the strengthening of local institutional capacities. Over 300,000 people will benefit from these interventions, which will continue for four months.”
