The mapping activity promoted by the Azione TerrAE coalition has concluded. The coalition consists of seven cooperation associations and two civil society networks: ACRA, CISV, COSPE, DEAFAL, LVIA, Mani Tese, Terra Nuova, Rete Semi Rurali, and Agroecology Europe. The coalition’s goal is to highlight the growing agroecological know-how within civil society and to foster dialogue and exchange of experiences.

The initiative was carried out under the “CHALLENGE – A Call to Action for Local and National Agroecological Change Promoted by New Ecologist Generations” project, funded by AICS through the 2021 Global Citizenship Education Call for Proposals and led by DEAFAL. The project addresses climate change and the anthropic impacts on ecosystems through a series of initiatives aimed at mobilizing citizens and institutions towards a more sustainable and just world.

Following an open “call” to Italian and international stakeholders, 28 best practices in agroecological transition from around the world were mapped. Of these:

  • 10 practices are implemented in Italy, in regions such as Lombardy, Veneto, Trentino, Emilia-Romagna, Campania, Sardinia, and Basilicata.
  • 18 practices come from 15 countries: Croatia, Serbia, Turkey, Greece, Portugal, Peru, Chad, Morocco, Kenya, eSwatini, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Benin, Guinea-Bissau, and Niger.

This mapping effort underscores the growing importance of agroecology as a viable and sustainable approach to address global environmental challenges while fostering community-based solutions and cross-border collaboration.
