The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation – Maputo Office has launched “VaMoz Digital! Digital Competences, Entrepreneurship and Services as Growth Opportunities for Youth in Mozambique (AID 12807)”, a project funded by the EU.

The call for proposal is a complement to the creation of a technological center of digital excellence in the Maputo area. This new initiative offers two grants, each worth 2.5 million euros, for public-private partnerships interested in creating digital “tech hubs” in the central and northern areas of the country. The digital technological hubs will support training, incubation and acceleration activities for businesses and the development of digital services of public utility.

Mozambique ranking is among the lowest in the Human Development Index published by the United Nations in terms of economic development. For decades, the country has relied on foreign direct investment (FDI) in capital-intensive sectors with limited impact on the local economy. Among the interventions defined to enhance the great potential of the younger generations, the African Union, the Government of Mozambique and their cooperation partners, in particular the European Union with its Member States, have identified digital transformation as one of the cornerstones of this new course.
