“Not only 8 March – Cooperation Events” is the title that encompasses the series of events proposed by the Dakar headquarters of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) on the occasion of the International Day for Women’s Rights.
These events are in continuity with those organized in the recent years by AICS Dakar in collaboration with the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Dakar (IIC), as the conference “Comunicare il femminismo” and the symposium “Ri-pensare insieme”.
The aim is to create free spaces for discussion on issues that mobilize cooperation agencies such as the inclusion and exclusion of certain social groups, social change through the arts, human rights and social justice, and activism as a means of producing scientific knowledge. All fundamental elements when it comes to rights, equality, autonomy, fairness.
On March 6th it has been organized the workshop “Memorie da sottopelle. Laboratorio di coreo/grafie decoloniali” created by Marie Moise and Mackda Ghebremariam Tesfau’, researchers and activists. The workshop, based on texts by authors such as Grada Kilomba, Djamila Ribeiro, Rahma Nur, Carla Akotirene, proposed a collective practice of theoretical and performative reworking of discriminatory experiences to forge a new collective consciousness.
On March 7th, the conference and debate was the opportunity to launch the Bianca Pomeranzi Award, the digital brochure of the proceedings of the “Re-thinking together” symposium organized at the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar on the occasion of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence in 2022 and the Senegal gender profile.
All the events, open and free, were held at the Italian Institute of Culture in Dakar.
