The AICS Director, Marco Riccardo Rusconi, welcomed the Director of the Global Education Network Europe (GENE), Liam Wegimont, to the AICS headquarters in Rome. The Global Education Network Europe (GENE) is the network of Ministries and Government Agencies of 25 European countries, of which Italy is a member, with the main aim of connecting, stimulating discussion and dialogue between countries on the subject of Global Citizenship Education.

The meeting was an opportunity to reiterate the active commitment that AICS promotes at national, regional and international level on Global Citizenship Education, but also to think about new challenges/opportunities to “Ensure by 2030 that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to promote sustainable development, including through education aimed at sustainable development and lifestyle, human rights, gender equality, the promotion of a peaceful and non-violent culture, citizenship global and to the valorisation of cultural diversity and the contribution of culture to sustainable development” (OSS 4.7).

GENE underlined the important work of the Agency in concretely translating the commitments undertaken both in the National Strategy for ECG and in the Dublin Declaration, adopting a National Action Plan. Italy is an example at European level for the involvement of Regions and local authorities, thanks to the promotion of inter- and intra-regional dialogue on the issues of Global Citizenship Education, but also through the adoption of formal commitments within the regional legislation.
