On the occasion of the ninth edition of Turin Fashion Week, the Havana office of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), together with Unioncamere Piemonte, the Provincial Government of Havana, and the Municipal Government of Centro Havana, supports the talent, art, and creativity of young people as a driver of sustainable socio-economic development in line with the goals of the 2030 Agenda.
According to Chiara Vighi, an expert in the Culture and Local Development Sector of AICS Havana: “The young Cuban creatives who participated in the artistic workshops organized as part of our Avenida Italia project have shared their experiences, collaborated actively, and discovered their creativity, understanding the importance of working together for a common goal. The training program included various disciplines such as poetry, graphic design, and circular fashion. During the last workshop, the focus on fashion sustainability helped them become more aware of environmental issues and their role in contributing positively to society. Finally, the experience in Turin represents an opportunity for exchange, curiosity, and innovation.”
This year, the event in the Piedmontese capital is enriched with new presences. In addition to the Cuban brands Innatus and Devi, which showcased in the previous edition, three new designers, winners of the Circular Fashion contest held by AICS Havana in March, will present new trends in Cuban fashion, with a fusion of different styles and energies.
“For me, the support offered by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation within the Avenida Italia project here in Cuba is very important because it gives emerging young brands the opportunity to continue doing 100% Cuban work and helps us position Cuban fashion internationally. It’s a great opportunity to represent our culture and creativity outside the island, and it’s a chance to develop our potential, thanks to the training support from AICS,” said one of the selected designers, Ordanis Hernández García.
An important experience within an international cultural event that highlights the themes of development cooperation, sustainable fashion, and represents different cultures, values, and traditions. A virtuous example of how Italian Cooperation in Cuba, through the promotion of creativity and innovation, in harmony with the country’s local development policies, can open pathways and opportunities for growth for talented young people.
