The project “Strengthening the Capacity and Coordination of the Judiciary and Law Enforcement in Bosnia and Herzegovina to Effectively Address Corruption and Economic Crime” was officially launched by AICS Tirana and UNODC – The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), this initiative’s main partners and beneficiaries include significant local judicial institutions such as the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC), the Judicial Training Centers of the Republic of Srpska and the Federation (CEST), and the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and the Coordination of the Fight Against Corruption (APIK).
A key objective of the project is to strengthen the capacity to conduct financial investigations and pursue asset recovery, implementing anti-corruption strategies and promoting better coordination among police, prosecutors, and other key stakeholders. Through these efforts, the project aims to support Bosnia and Herzegovina in meeting European Union accession requirements related to fighting corruption and organized crime, supporting the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (to which Bosnia and Herzegovina is a signatory), and contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 16 on peace, justice, and strong institutions.
During her address, AICS Tirana Director Stefania Vizzaccaro emphasized the role of Bosnian institutions, which “have demonstrated a clear willingness to work together to build a stronger legal system, serving not only as beneficiaries but as active players in the reform process, essential to fulfilling our shared ambitions of transparency, integrity, and justice.”
