Today, at the ACI headquarters, the framework agreement was signed between the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and the Automobile Club of Italy (ACI), another key collaboration of the Italian System, strongly boosted by the Mattei Plan to enhance and value the contribution of Italian institutions in cooperation activities.
AICS aims to serve as a catalyst for ACI’s stronger involvement in international cooperation, particularly in areas where it has recognized competence and expertise: from road safety and education to sustainable mobility and the creation of modern and advanced vehicle registration and administrative management systems, in line with the global health, well-being, and environmental sustainability goals of the 2030 Agenda.
Specifically, the collaboration will be implemented, at the request of partner countries, through projects funded by AICS in the form of assistance programs implemented through various activities such as:
- Establishing dedicated training facilities and specific technical skill upgrades for safe driving, following the ACI educational model and standards, in accordance with the most advanced European standards;
- Organizing services related to sustainable mobility and mobility information systems;
- Organizing actions and projects on road education and safety, as well as raising awareness of sustainable mobility;
- Structuring training paths for issuing driving licenses for citizens based on advanced methodologies that allow for full awareness of driving risks and skills to address and avoid these risks.
ACI will provide the human resources, technology, and know-how necessary to achieve the agreement’s objectives, leveraging the high professional contribution it can offer in improving safety and sustainability standards internationally, thanks to its role within the FIA.
“This signing confirms the commitment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and AICS to involve the entire Italian System and its excellences in development cooperation activities. The goal is to generate lasting collaborative relationships with governments and societies of our priority partners in areas such as the Balkans and North Africa. I have identified ACI as a key player in this effort,” commented the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Edmondo Cirielli.
“This agreement fits well into AICS’s prevention and education activities in road safety, health, and environmental sustainability,” commented Marco Riccardo Rusconi, Director of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, at the event’s conclusion. “With ACI’s expertise, we will support partner countries in their strategies to reduce road fatalities, improve environmental standards, and enhance vehicle registries for fiscal purposes.”
According to Angelo Sticchi Damiani, President of the Automobile Club of Italy, “cooperating to promote and develop fundamental values like road education, safety, and increasingly sustainable mobility, both socially and environmentally, is part of the DNA of an organization like ACI—a founding member of the International Automobile Federation, collaborating with Clubs worldwide. This agreement with AICS represents an important step forward in offering partner countries the know-how, experience, and vision developed over our 120-year history.”
