On June 28, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in Kiev delivered two important pieces of medical equipment to Hospital No. 4 in Dnipro. This donation, part of the 14 million euro Emergency Call, is part of a project aimed at distributing advanced medical equipment to three Ukrainian hospitals, including two in the city of Lviv.

The supply for the Dnipro hospital includes endoscopy and gastroscopy machines, essential for improving the diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities of the healthcare facility. These tools were specifically chosen in response to the high number of wounded with internal bleeding requiring timely and complex interventions.

Hospital No. 4 in Dnipro, located just 90 km from the front line, plays a crucial role as a second-line hospital, where the wounded are transported from the occupied areas or the front line after initial assistance in field hospitals. The city and its surroundings are also frequent targets of missile attacks, increasing the number of patients and the urgency of necessary medical operations. Natalia But, General Director of the Hospital, and Rostyslav Bublii, Gastroenterologist, highlighted that with the start of the war, the number of patients treated annually has risen from 20,000 to 44,000, while the operations performed have increased from 8,000 to 15,000.

“With this donation, we want to demonstrate our concrete support for the Ukrainian healthcare system at such a critical time,” said Pietro Pipi, Head of the AICS office in Kiev. “Our priority is to provide essential tools that can save lives and improve care conditions for patients affected by the conflict. The dedication of these doctors – working 24 hours a day close to the front line to handle emergencies – is an extraordinary example of service.”

Within the same hospital, AICS Kiev also supports the initiative of the non-profit organization Soleterre and the Zaporuka Foundation, included in the 46 million euro Call for the population affected by the conflict in Ukraine and neighboring countries, which offers physical rehabilitation and psychological support to the victims of the conflict.

AICS has been operating in the health sector in Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion. Between 2022 and 2024, it has launched 24 projects dedicated to health, protection, and the well-being of the population, for a total of over 20 million euros.

The initiative was carried out in close collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Ukraine, which supported the Agency in identifying medical facilities.
