The next edition of Codeway Expo, scheduled to take place from May 16 to 18, 2025, at Fiera Roma, was presented today at the Farnesina in Rome. The event was attended by notable figures, including the Director of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), Marco Riccardo Rusconi, and the Director General for Development Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI), Stefano Gatti.
Codeway Expo 2025 will bring together a wide range of participants, including institutions such as the European Union and European Parliament, UN agencies, governments, ministries, regional authorities, local entities, chambers of commerce, universities, research centers, as well as businesses, commercial banks, investment funds, NGOs, and civil society organizations. The event aims to connect key players in international cooperation, with a particular focus on opportunities and prospects for the private sector.
“The private sector is—according to Law 125 on Cooperation—an active agent of Development Cooperation when it operates in a sustainable and inclusive manner, transfers know-how and skills, and creates decent jobs,” said Director Marco Riccardo Rusconi during his address. “Codeway is an excellent platform to further promote the role of businesses in this area, which can benefit from the innovation and investment potential they bring. We see this role even more through the lens of partnership: companies entering the world of cooperation can collaborate with civil society organizations and other Italian cooperation actors already active in the field, including universities and local entities with extensive experience and the ability to act as effective ‘vectors’.”
Project Coordinator Wladimiro Boccali explained that “The 2025 format will unfold on two main levels: a horizontal one, based on the key concepts of cooperation—People, Planet, Partnership, Prosperity, and Peace—and a vertical one, structured into ‘Cooperation Villages.’ These thematic villages will provide meeting and discussion spaces for civil society organizations and businesses active in areas such as agriculture, energy, the blue economy, healthcare, digitalization, and emergency management. Alongside these specialized areas for expert interaction, there will be a central agora, open to all, designed for institutions, regions, industry associations, and banks.”
